One in Three

According to a UN Women study, globally one in three women has been a victim of physical and/or sexual violence.

In the “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” campaign, which lasts from November 25, the International Day Against Violence Against Women, to December 10, International Human Rights Day, WIIS Austria actively wants to get involved in countering this problem together with other institutions.

In times of COVID, the constraints on women and violence towards women has even increased. Women often experience stress related to social isolation and quarantine, or find themselves in abusive situations without any chance of leaving or confinement with violent partners.
While this is a worldwide crisis, WIIS Austria wants to put a focus on a local institution aiming at being part of the solution: Verein Wiener Frauenhäuser.

Verein Wiener Frauenhäuser runs four women shelters and temporary housing, offering protection and help to abused and threatened women and their children, irrespective of their nationality, religion or income. Additionally, the organization is offering anonymous help and advice free of charge in a counselling office. In these 16 days, you will find out more about the work of Verein Wiener Frauenhäuser.
