A Morning of Inspiration: WiN IAEA Kicks Off 2024 with Peri Lynne Johnson

Friday 1st of March marked the beginning of something special at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) – the launch of the Women in Nuclear (WiN) IAEA 2024 event series, “Breakfast with inspirational WiNners.” This event, aimed at celebrating gender equality and inclusion, brought together minds from across the nuclear sector for an engaging morning filled with stories of triumph and shared experiences.

WiN IAEA: Building Bridges

WiN IAEA, under the guidance of President Janette Donner, has long been a platform for both women and men in the nuclear field to support one another, share knowledge, and drive the industry towards a more inclusive future. It’s a network that not only connects professionals within the IAEA but also extends its reach to those in related fields, all united by a common goal: to ensure the peaceful and safe use of nuclear energy.

Spotlight on Peri Lynne Johnson

The series couldn’t have asked for a better start than with Ms. Peri Lynne Johnson, a pioneer and the longest-serving female Director at the IAEA. Her journey is a testament to what can be achieved with determination and hard work. During her talk, Ms. Johnson shared insights from her career, highlighting the challenges she faced and the milestones she achieved on her way to the top. Her message was clear: success is within reach for those who persist and never lose sight of their goals.

A Conversation on Challenges and Overcoming Them

Following the inspirational talk, the event transitioned into a discussion about the hurdles women often encounter in the nuclear field. It was a candid exchange of experiences and strategies for overcoming these challenges. This discussion was a reminder of the critical role that platforms like WiN IAEA play in fostering a supportive community where members can learn from each other and grow together.

Forward Together

As we wrap up today’s event, it’s evident that “Breakfast with inspirational WiNners” is more than just a series; it’s a step forward in the journey towards a more inclusive and equitable nuclear sector. We’re thankful to Ms. Johnson for sharing her story and to all the attendees for contributing to a meaningful dialogue.

Let’s keep the momentum going. Engage with WiN IAEA, join us at future events, and be part of the movement towards gender equality in our field. Together, we can make a difference.
